Former VVHS Employee Wins Statewide Animal Control Award

Cottonwood Animal Control Office Autumn Durnez was recently named Arizona’s Animal Control Officer of the year. The award was given by the Arizona Animal Control Association (AZACA). She was one of ten nominees and was honored for her unwavering commitment to the profession and to the welfare of animals in the Cottonwood community. “For me, the most rewarding part of the job is helping a local citizen and animal improve whatever their circumstances are,” Durnez told the Verde Independent newspaper. Durnez has been with the Cottonwood Police Department for 14 years and she started her career in her 20s as kennel manager at the Verde Valley Humane Society. Congratulations Autumn. You are a key player in the relationship between the city and VVHS and we are proud to consider you as one of us.

Amante Polar Plunge Generates a Splash of Donations

On a breezy March 30 afternoon, the Amante neighborhood in the Verde Santa Fe community held its annual Polar Plunge event to benefit the VVHS. Participants braved the not-yet-heated Amante clubhouse pool and generated almost $1,000 in pledges and spontaneous donations. There were eight “plungers” in total, with two eager “young ladies” leading the way. Shown here are Rose Cossart, Amante Social Activities Committee chair (center) presenting the donations to Maxine Belcher (right) VVHS Board President and Alice Klies, VVHS Vice President.
