Lobby Renewal Meet Nicole Shelter Kisses Dogs Adopted Ethel, the Brat Cat Wagfest & Fair September 16th! Putt 4 Paws Golf Tournament needs Volunteers
Pardon Our Mess!
Our lobby is being renewed with a lot of paint and a little magic. All day we operate as normally as possible with desks in new places and our lobby shop packed in storage. Animals are fed and cared for, dogs are walked, cats are petted, adoptions happen, strays arrive with Animal Control Officers, owners come to claim their wayward pups. It’s all pretty normal… until closing time.
That’s when the elves arrive and the magic happens…

Shelter Kisses Dogs Find Forever Homes
Staff and Volunteers love to see our long term residents leave.
Our staff, shelter volunteers, and fosters work hard to provide care and love for our great dogs and cats. Yet they know no matter how good the care is, each needs to leave for a real home of their own.
Recently, four of our special dogs found homes after a total of 2,214days with us.
Cleveland Brown, our amazing 3-legged boy, found his forever home just a few blocks from our shelter after 470 days of waiting.
Margo spent 725days with us, 10 days short of two years. This poor girl came to us with a plastic covered wire embedded in her neck.
Jed, a favorite of all, waited 515 days here before he went to a new home.
Sparkle stayed 504 days waiting for the perfect family to find her.
In April they all became Shelter Kisses dogs and created beautiful abstract art for our Art for the Animals Sale.
Come to Wagfest in Sedona on September 16th to learn more about our artistic shelter dogs and how they crated their art.
Please donate to help us find forever homes for all our great dogs and cats and to help us care for them while they wait.
Gorgeous Ethel came to the shelter and hated everybody. The “Brat Cat” hissed at other cats, hissed at volunteers, and hissed at the staff. She became queen of cats in the community cat room. We respected her space, but tried to engage. This sassy 10 pound bundle of fluff allowed pats until a quick paw swipe let any mere human know she’d had enough.
She wasn’t welcoming to other cats but didn’t start fights. After several months, we were concerned Ethel would not find a forever home.
One day, two ladies saw Ethel’s love photo on Facebook and came to meet her. We told them Ethel might not be friendly and not to pet her. As promised, Ethel was unimpressed with visitors who wanted to take her home. A few days later the ladies returned and said they didn’t care if Ethel hated them because they loved her and wanted to adopt her. They brought a cute collar and carrier and off Ethel went.
The ladies reported back that Ethel was settling in, but still cranky. Their next report was that Ethel, the Brat Cat, had taken over the house and they were starting to suspect that she may even like them. Their last report was that Ethel loved them as much as they loved her.
One volunteer commented, “I truly thank all the amazing adopters who choose senior dogs and cats, ones with health problems, or those, like Ethel, who need extra love and care.”
