But wait, you say, why is there a motor scooter inside the shelter!
Scroll down to find out. It could be yours!
Wagfest Dogs Paint
Aurora and Tala Witkop helped their dog Zona learn to paint during the Verde Valley Humane Society’s “Shelter Kisses” presentation at Wagfest.
We presented a demonstration of how dogs can create art. Dogs from the Wagfest audience volunteered to paint canvases (lick peanut butter off plastic bags to artistically distribute the paint inside into unique designs). Any dog that liked peanut butter had a chance to be an artist.
Over 1,000 pets a year come to our shelter under many circumstances. Some return to their owners quickly. Many find new homes soon. Some stay a while and leave. Others may stay a long time, overlooked by adopters due to their size or color, or what their breed may or may not appear to be, or because they have special needs. Our staff believes there are individuals and families out there who would welcome them into their home and hearts.
Eugene, Eugene!
Eugene has a great smile and the most amazing eyebrows. Maybe that’s why he’s one of our shelter celebrities He was first featured dog in our Shelter Kisses Art for the Animals art sale, where he created great abstract art. His favorite colors are green, blue, and yellow. Then he became the poster boy for our Golf Tournament. Now he’s become the model for our Scooter Raffle. His next appearance will be in a TikTok video.
His Story- On 6/28/20 he was adopted from the Verde Valley Humane Society and then brought in as a stray on 6/29/22. His owner surrendered him because he wouldn’t stay in the yard. He’s been back in our shelter for over 475 days!
Eugene’s a big 70-pound-boy around 8 years old. He loves the kiddie pool and hanging out in the play yard. He’s a cuddle bug and attention hog.
At the Story Hour at the Camp Verde Community Library Alice read “Love Me Gently” by Lisa Wiehebrink about caring for pets gently and children drew pictures in Wiehebrink’s “Tails that Teach” activity book. All received books to take home.
At the Cottonwood Public Library’s Family Craft Cindy and Lee, with the help of a Therapy Dog team, taught children how to interact with dogs. The Cottonwood children, too, were given books to take home.
Our friends from Bark and Bakery, bakers of amazing dog and cat treats, held a raffle at the Verde Valley Farmers’ Market for one of their Dog Cakes. Luckily the winner had 3 dogs to help devour the delicious and healthy dog desert. Thanks to Don, the Market Manager for inviting us.
