Shelter KissesArt
Some of longest resident shelter dog have created art for our art sale. Their artwork these artistic adoptable dogs will be sold to support their stay with us or discount their adoption fees.
Jed, one of our featured artists, is about five years old. He was brought to us as a stray after someone found him around Montezuma Well, a location loved by many traveling artists. Jed is sweet and affectionate with people and loves toys but hasn’t shown that he would like any dog friends. This strong guy weighs around seventy pounds and is looking for an experienced adopter and a yard with space for him to run and sun. He’s been at the shelter over 360 days.
At the Art for the Animals sale, Jed’s paintings will be displayed with his kennel photo, length of stay, and wish for adoption. Each will be labeled Painted by “the artist” for Art for the Animals 2023.
Large Collaborative Abstract Expressionist Painting
A group of our not-so-starving shelter dog artists created a large collaborative abstract expressionist art project. Buyers are welcome to meet the artists at a later time at the Verde Valley Humane shelter.
We loved each one of the Shelter Kisses Art masterpieces and hope our animals’ art will be a unique hit at the sale.
How Jed& his Friends Painted
First, our volunteers covered canvases with paint. Then placed each one into a plastic ziplock bag. Next, the outsides of the bags were smeared with peanut butter. For our first artists, we chose the dogs that have been at the Verde Valley Humane Society the longest.
The dogs were immediately excited and got right to work. They enthusiastically began painting by licking their canvas to create unique images as only especially talented dogs could do.
