Job Description

Verde Valley Humane Society is seeking a compassionate and attentive Animal Care Specialist to join our dedicated team. This role focuses on ensuring the daily well-being and comfort of animals within our shelter, providing them with a nurturing environment during their stay.

Responsibilities

– Deliver daily care to the animals in the shelter, including feeding, cleaning kennels, and monitoring general health.
– Assist with the intake and initial assessment of new animals, recording necessary information and helping them adjust to the shelter environment.
– Maintain a clean, sanitary, and positive living space for all animals under our care.
– Observe animal behavior, working closely with our behaviorist to identify and address any behavioral issues or needs.
– Participate in animal socialization and enrichment activities to help prepare them for life in a forever home.
– Engage with potential adopters, providing information about the animals, and assisting with meet-and-greets.
– Work collaboratively with team members and volunteers, contributing to a supportive and efficient workplace.
– Follow and uphold all shelter protocols and procedures, prioritizing the safety and welfare of both animals and staff

Qualifications

– High school diploma or equivalent.
– Previous experience in animal care or a shelter environment is a plus.
– Basic understanding of animal behavior and care practices.
– Ability to handle animals with care and respect.
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
– Comfortable working in a dynamic and emotionally charged environment.
– Must be willing to learn, adapt, and take on new responsibilities as needed.
– Flexibility to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements

– Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
– Must be comfortable working with and around various animal species.
– Capability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the duration of the shift.
